Info
You have a space and an idea. We bring it to life – designed with you and built by hand.
Studio Rühlmann is a design studio and workshop near Ericeira, Portugal. We work at the meeting point of craft and design, making things that last. We design and build furniture, interiors and timber cabins, from first sketch to final fitting.
I’m Christian Rühlmann. I started out as a boatbuilder, a trade in which every joint has to be watertight. Later, I studied industrial design. In Berlin, a friend and I built up a design studio, from which I co-founded and led an impact start-up. In 2023 I opened Studio Rühlmann in Lisbon, which has since moved to its current location on the west coast of Portugal.
Today I work with a small team of skilled craftspeople. Design and craft happen under one roof.
We work for private clients and architects in Portugal and abroad. Every project starts with a conversation. Tell us what you have in mind!

Kind words
I was privileged to have Christian make 5 furniture pieces for me! His work is superb, the finishing is refined, and his attention to detail is unparalleled! I highly recommend Christian when you truly want heirloom quality and wonderful service!
I must have messaged almost every carpenter in Portugal, being turned down countless times for the complexity and unusuallness of my project, until I met Christian.
Christian is a unique partner to collaborate with. He not only has the technical and woodworking ability to bring your most bonkers ideas to life, he also has excellent taste, a brilliant eye, a business mind, and raft of ideas of his own to bring to your project.
With each iteration I found myself frequently accepting Christians ideas over my own. Christian is much more of a conceptualiser / design partner than just a talented woodworker. It’s fair to say my dream business wouldn’t exist without him. Highly, highly recommended; stop looking, you’ve found your carpenter!
