An off-grid cabin near Ericeira.
Cabins carry an almost archaic romance for many people, and I'm not immune to their charm either. I built this cabin in the summer of 2025, with help from the client. We kept the structure pragmatic and budget-conscious, and spent extra time on a few standout details, such as the custom windows and doors.
One thing I especially love is the outdoor bathroom with its open-air shower. It faces east-southeast and catches the morning sun. What better way to start the day?
A bespoke cabinet that hides a complete DJ setup.
This piece was made for a Lisbon-based DJ who wanted his setup within reach at all times, but out of sight in his living room. The decks slide out in seconds, and even the speakers are built in. Closed, the cabinet draws the eye with a few carefully placed details without giving away what's inside. Imagine the surprise of an unsuspecting guest when the party starts in the blink of an eye!
A sculptural table for graphic designers' home in Lisbon.
Imagine standing in a forest, looking through the trees into the distance. That image guided the design and arrangement of the legs. Can you see it?
A round solid oak dining table on a sculptural centre column.
The centre column is the hero of this table. We had to build a special jig just to make it, but it was worth every minute.
An active two-way speaker prototype with horns and DSP.
I have a soft spot for custom hi-fi. So when the chance came to build speaker cabinets for the Lisbon-based brand Estro Sound, I had to say yes. And of course I put in a little extra effort: the grain runs continuously around each cabinet, the corners are mitred and the woofers are mounted without visible fixings. Given enough attention, even pine plywood can shine.
This is what Estro has to say about them:
"A large format, two cabinet active loudspeaker. The Super Horn combines a large 12" woofer on the bottom, with a horn loaded compression driver above to cover the full range of frequencies. This is a big, bold statement speaker for at home or in-venue listening. Hand-crafted in the wood veneer of your choice, with the same quality of joins and finish that you'd expect from a high end item of wooden furniture. The 'active' in active loudspeakers means that these speakers already come loaded with powerful amplifiers and all the clever digital kit required. All you'll need to do is plug them into the power, pick your source, and start the immediate toe-tapping."

Lit display shelving for the Arches Studios store.
A concept for a detached studio built from timber, hempcrete and clay.
Photographer and friend John Brömstrup asked me to design and build a studio for him on a plot of land near Ericeira. Needless to say, I was thrilled. The project hasn't been built yet, but I'm too excited about the design not to share it.
A compact coaxial smart speaker with built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.
After the Super Horn, David from Estro Sound and I teamed up again to build a small, modern bookshelf speaker with a classic silhouette.
This is what Estro has to say about it:
"The smallest speaker in the Estro range — but no less considered for it. A 4" coaxial driver delivers a point-source sound image in a compact cabinet small enough to live on a shelf, desk, or kitchen worktop. An onboard smart amplifier handles WiFi, Bluetooth, AirPlay, and Spotify Connect, so it connects to everything."
A daybed in solid American oak.
A dining table in solid American oak with breadboard ends.
There are many ways to keep a solid wood tabletop flat through the seasons and over the years. Breadboard ends are one of them. 2.6 × 1.1 m, American oak, oiled finish.
A low table in French oak, built for and with a friend.
A desk in solid American oak.
The largest table we have built so far.
This long table went into the clients' home. The brief was short and simple: "We have lots of friends we like to invite for dinner. We want a table that easily seats 20 and doesn't budge when we dance on it." Sounds like a good life, and we're happy to contribute a sturdy and beautiful ingredient to it. Did we mention it's 6 metres long?
Mahogany pieces for a friend's off-grid cabin, built together with him.
Photographer and friend Diego Fontecilla lives in a self-built off-grid cabin near Ericeira. Together we built a few mahogany pieces that tie the whole place together: the icing on the cake, so to speak.
An oak ladder to display textiles.
Lisbon-based Bryon Studios makes "sentimental textiles". We built an oak ladder with wedged walnut joints to show them off.
What happens when you turn a defect into the main feature?

A yurt I designed and built for myself.
I have a soft spot for alternative dwellings of any kind. I've lived on several boats, in a van and in various improvised homes, and I can't get enough of it. Living in a space that is a little different adds something real to my life. So sooner or later I was bound to come across yurts. People have lived in them for thousands of years in many corners of the world, and they have seen a revival in recent years.
With plenty of resources out there, I set out to design and build my own. Unlike its nomadic ancestors, this yurt is insulated with a thick layer of wood wool and covered in a waterproof, breathable marine canvas. Add a Danish cast-iron stove and it is ready for year-round living.
A coffee table prototype in walnut and marble.
World of Satinka, a company focused on sustainable living spaces, asked me to design a furniture collection for them. The guiding principles included regionality, longevity and movement. This coffee table is part of the collection. The marble top follows the shape of the offcut it was made from. The walnut base draws on Japanese joinery.
Storage chests for yoga equipment.
A bespoke futon bed in solid ash.
The design draws on Japanese joinery, both in the floating bed platform and in the choice of joints.
